Happy hour

Every happy hour we can stand behind in Jacksonville, with what is actually cheaper rather than the words “drink specials”. Windows change without notice — the venue is the source of truth.

  • 11am–midnightSun

    The Casbah CafeSunday $3 mimosas

    Avondale $$$

Mimosas at $3 all day Sunday, on the same listing as the 9pm-to-midnight live jazz. The daily 3-to-7 happy hour on beer, wine, wells and hookahs runs as usual.

  • from 11amSun

    V PizzaAll-day Sunday happy hour

    San Marco $$

Sidecar’s happy hour pricing runs the whole of Sunday rather than the 3-7pm window it keeps the rest of the week. What is discounted is again not published; the bar’s stock in trade is house cocktails, microbrews and a long spirits list, with a Cocktail of the Week to ask for.

  • noon–2amSun

    Sherwood'sSunday Bloody Marys

    San Marco $

$6 Venture Smoked Pepper Bloody Marys, which the bar bills as its famous ones, poured from open to close all Sunday. Nothing else on the board is discounted that day.

  • 1–7pmSun

    Beer:30Sunday half-price drafts with a to-go pack

    San Marco $$

Buy a four-pack or six-pack to take home and every draft pour you drink in the bar that day is half price. It runs the whole of Sunday trading, 1pm to 7pm. The discount is conditional on the packaged purchase; without one, drafts are full price.

  • 3–6pmSun & Tue–Sat

    Posting HouseDaily happy hour

    San Marco $$

The bar publishes the window — “Happy Hour daily, 3-6pm” — and not much else. The one clue to what moves is the House Club membership, which is sold partly on “Happy Hour on house drafts all day every day”, so the house taps are the line that comes down. Off the standard list, draft beer runs $7 to $8 and the tap wines $8 to $9, with glasses of champagne and sparkling from $8.

  • 3–7pmEvery day

    The Casbah CafeDaily happy hour

    Avondale $$$

Discounted beer, wine and wells, and discounted hookahs, every day of the week from 3 to 7. The Casbah publishes no prices for any of it. Hookah service is 21 and over, needs two forms of ID and requires a drink order - water counts if you are eating - and carries a $100 damage charge.

  • 4–6pmSun & Tue–Sat

    Gemma Fish + OysterHappy hour

    San Marco $$$

Half-price wines by the glass, $1 off draft beer and a selection of cocktails at $8, with a short bar menu running alongside: Lil’ Tempura $6, Truffle Fries $7, Fried Fish Bites $8, Jerk Chicken Skewers $10, a Tuna Poke Bowl $12 and a chef’s-choice dozen of raw oysters at market price. It runs every day the restaurant opens except Monday.

  • 4–6pmSun & Tue–Fri

    Restaurant OrsayCocktail hour

    Avondale $$$$

Orsay runs cocktail hour from 4 to 6pm on every day it opens except Saturday, when it starts at 11am instead. Gulf coast oysters come down to $2 apiece on the cocktail hour menu, which the kitchen runs as a section of the raw bar alongside discounted bar snacks and drinks. The restaurant is shut on Mondays, so the window covers Tuesday to Friday and Sunday.

  • 4–6pmSun & Tue–Sat

    TavernaDaily happy hour

    San Marco $$$

Taverna runs happy hour every day it opens, which is Tuesday through Sunday, from 4 to 6pm. It is one of the nine menus the restaurant publishes separately, sitting alongside the cheese and salumi list and Kiley Efron’s wine-by-the-glass list, and the kitchen also offers it to go.

  • 4–6pmSun–Thu

The Grape & Grain ExchangeSunday to Thursday happy hour

    San Marco $$$

Draft beer opens at $3 for Dos Equis and $3.50 for Miller Lite, with Stella Artois at $4, Stiegl and Bell’s Two Hearted at $4.50, and Guinness and the boilermaker at $5. Wines by the glass start at $6 - Santa Julia Malbec, La Fiera Pinot Grigio, Line 39 Cabernet, Nicolas Chardonnay - then run up through $7 Vinho Verde and cava and $9 Cotes du Rhone to $13 for St. Hubert’s The Stag Cabernet and $14 for Lemelson Pinot Noir. No food specials are listed, which is consistent with a bar that runs charcuterie and snacks rather than a kitchen.

  • 4–7pmSun

    The VolsteadCraft cocktail happy hour

    Downtown $$$

Four to seven on craft cocktails, classics and wine, finishing exactly as the swing dancing starts upstairs at 7pm. No prices are published anywhere reachable.

    The Fish CompanyDaily happy hour

    Atlantic Beach $$$

Bud Light, Miller Lite and Yuengling drafts are $3.50, house wines $5, and house margaritas, house Bloody Marys and Skyy vodka martinis $5. The bar is a full one with an oyster bar alongside it; raw oysters, steamed oysters and steamed clams are $17 a dozen and an oyster shooter $5.25 off the regular menu, none of which is discounted.

  • 6pm–2amSun

    Dos GatosThe Great Unwind

    Downtown $$$

Sunday at Dos Gatos runs on $3 drafts and $4 bomb shots, which the bar files under The Great Unwind and frames as giving Monday morning the big middle finger. Strictly 21 and over, and there is no kitchen.

  • 8.30–10pmSun

    InCahoots NightclubSunday happy hour

    Riverside $$

The same list as midweek - $2.50 beers, $3.50 wells, $3.50 Fireball and Hooker shots, $4.50 calls, $5.50 premiums - but compressed into ninety minutes, because the club does not open until 8pm on a Sunday. After 10pm it goes to $3 beers, $4.25 wells, $4.25 Fireball and Hooker shots and $5.50 calls.
